Unique Serving Platter

Although I love my dining room table, it is about to go. I live in a small apartment, and I have found that it collects packages and other things so much that we no longer eat there. I know that it is bad for a family to watch television while they are eating dinner, but right now this is the best for us. Quite often we sit around the coffee table rather than the dining room table to eat our meals. It’s less than ideal, but when you live in a place a small as we do, you have to do what works.

My dining room table has been around for quite a while. It was in my father’s house for many years and he gave it to us when he bought a new table. It’s not that I don’t like the table, it’s just that it’s not helping my clutter situation at all. If you were to look at my dining room table right now you would see piles of laundry, a stack of bills, tools, drawings, and a big basket of odds and ends. Once in awhile I get motivated and clear off the table, this doesn’t happen as often as I wish.

I hope that we will soon be buying our own house and that we will have a special place for our dining room table. We have a space that is considered the dining room, but this space is very tiny. When the dryer broke on our apartment size washer and dryer unit, our landlord bought a full-sized dryer. Because we had nowhere else to put it, it went in the dining room space. This left little room for the dining room table, or anything else for that matter.

If I were to have my own home, I would never consider getting rid of my dining room table. I do very much want to have a dining room so that we may eat meals together away from the television. I think that that half an hour for mealtime should be a special time for my husband and our daughter. Because he works so much, they sometimes do not get to spend in a lot of time together. Perhaps having a functional dining room table would change all of this. All I know is that until we have room for everything that we need, my table will serve as a landing place for everything and anything.

There is one thing I know about cardboard boxes, and that is no matter what toy comes inside, a child will end up having more fun with the box than with the gift. Many parents will tell you this and then they may ponder a toy room filled with nothing, but cardboard boxes. As silly as that may sound, it actually might not be a bad idea. Cardboard boxes are more than just play things for children and if you need some, there are a great many places to get them.

Most people need cardboard boxes when they move. Quite often, you find yourself wandering in and out of every store you see saying, “Do you have boxes? Do you have boxes?” After a while, you get so tired of saying it and you think about just putting it on a t-shirt. That way, you can just walk around and point to your chest when you enter a store. OK, on second thought, that might not be a good idea if you are a woman. But really, that would make it so much easier.

On one particular quest for boxes, I wandered into a grocery store. I asked for cardboard boxes and they guy I talked to began going on about banana boxes. He was running around the store looking for banana cardboard boxes. These are, apparently, what all bananas are delivered in. I was confused, but when he brought me a stack of them, he explained. He told me that most people who come in looking for cardboard boxes for moving purposes liked to get the banana boxes because they are very strong and durable. He was right because they worked well.

If you can’t get your hands on banana cardboard boxes, you have other options. There are many places that specialize in moving and storage. They have cardboard boxes you can buy, even if you aren’t using their moving services. There are also people who sell shipping supplies and they will have a wide variety of cardboard boxes you can purchase from them as well. Even places that rent do it yourself moving trucks have boxes you can buy.

Cardboard boxes are everywhere, but you may have to ask ahead of time to get them from stores. Many stores used to have boxes upon boxes if you just asked. Anymore, they cut them up and package them for recycling. Most places will save some for you if you ask ahead of time, and then come in on the day they say to come. If you can’t make it, your cardboard boxes may be gone.
