Unique Serving Platter

One of my favorite pictures of my daughter is one where she is wearing a pirate hat. She was getting ready to see the Wiggles, and she wanted to wear a hat just like Captain Feathersword. It was much too big for her, but she didn’t care. She loved that hat and the eye patch that I bought to go with it. She didn’t wear the eye patch to the show because she couldn’t see well, but she thought it was just fine as long as she had it with her.

For some reason, children seem to love the idea of a pirate, though they really don’t know what being a real pirate means. To children, they are just fun guys in a pirate hat and that means they are likeable characters for some reason. If you watch children’s shows you will notice that the pirate hat is seen in many of them, but the pirates are nice and even a lot of fun. Children also seem to have a fascination with dinosaurs and other animals and they make up a lot of children’s show characters as well.

Pirates have been romanticized over time, though I am sure those who saw a pirate hat back when pirates were common weren’t very excited. Pirates were never nice, and often, the sight of them could mean that your ship was doomed and even that your life was at any end. I can only imagine that those who lived back then would be shocked to see children and adults alike walking around in a pirate hat and no one seeming to think a thing of it. They would probably think that surely the world has gone mad to think a person of such character is worth celebrating.

When looking for a pirate hat, it might be harder to find one to fit a child than an adult, but they are out there. You can find them rather cheaply if you look for a pirate hat made of felt. There are more expensive types that are made of leather or vinyl, but you may have to shop online to find the good ones. A leather hat would look more authentic when concocting a pirate costume. Then, of course, don’t forget the sword, vest and boots, and an eye patch that allows a person to see. That usually means a few slits in the patch, but some do not come that way.

For as long as I can remember, my brother has been a fan of horror movies. He has a large collection of horror memorabilia that takes up one corner of his bedroom. His wife has learned to live with his horror fascination and has even gone out of her way to get him some things for his collection. Though he is interested in many of the different movies that are out there, the biggest part of his collection by far are the Jason masks that he has collected over the years.

One of the first Jason masks he got was very cheap. That didn’t mean he did love it. He often used this mask to try to scare the daylights out of me. Even though I knew the Jason masks were not real, that didn’t mean I didn’t jump every time he came around the corner wearing one. Each and every one of them are slightly different, but it is obvious what they are.

One of the Jason masks that he has cost close to $100. His wife bought it for him one year for his birthday, and I don’t think I’ve ever seen him more excited. She went online to find Jason masks and then made sure she found one that looked as authentic as possible. I guess even though she may not understand his fascination with horror movies, it is a good thing that she allows him to indulge himself in. I don’t think she has bought him anything recently, but I wouldn’t rule it out in the future.
