They Keep Rolling - Toilet Paper Holders

Though you may not think about toilet paper holders very often, they are something that everyone needs. You can get away without having one, but for the most part they are something you find in every bathroom. They are very inexpensive, but they are also a royal pain for me. I have never had one that worked well, or stayed securely in the wall, and if there were another way, I would take it. When something falls apart every single time you use it, you starts to get very frustrated.

When you put up toilet paper holders, I strongly suggest you use cement. I know it’s not pretty, but that’s just the way I feel. You need concrete and huge bolts to keep them in the wall. If you try to install toilet paper holders in to drywall, you might have success when you first put it in, but within a few months you will notice that it has started to loosen up, and you may also find that they fall apart rather easily.

I have lived in my current home for two years and we have gone though three different toilet paper holders. The first was the one that was here when we moved in. It lasted about a month if I remember correctly. Once they start to loosen from the wall you might as well forget it. The toilet paper holders are done for once the drywall starts to give, and you will find that the bar that holds the paper falls out when you pull on the paper when you need it.

The second of our toilet paper holders we had could probably have been reinstalled, had I not gotten mad and tossed it into the garbage can. It wasn’t an expensive one, that I do realize, but it was really a pain. Like the first one, the bar kept falling out of the holder and I was tired of catching the paper every single time I tried to unroll it. My daughter has just turned five, so she’s just starting to learn to use toilet paper holders without any success. She was having a harder time than I was. I thought if I threw it out it would force my husband to buy one that might just stay in the wall. It worked and we’ve had our current one for over a year. I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

Scrub A Dub Dub - Cleaning Shower Doors

If there is one part of cleaning that I can’t stand, it is dealing with shower doors. It seems that nothing gets them clean unless you make it a point to clean them every single day. I don’t think I know anyone who has the time to do this. Shower doors come in many materials and if you are building a home or remodeling a bathroom, you should decide on your shower doors based on not only looks, but on how easy they will be to clean. This may be hard to know beforehand, so you should take some time to do some research.

If you search online, you are going to find reviews of just about everything, and I’m pretty sure you can find reviews on shower doors. You should look to find out what materials seem to be the easiest to clean and which brands others have been happy with. Keep in mind, that how hard shower doors are to clean may have to do with the type of water in your house, as well as what they are made of and how they are constructed.

If you have hard water in your home, you are going to have a rough time keeping your shower doors clean. Hard water contains a lot of extra minerals, and these minerals love to cling to just about anything they can. You will find that hard water will not only coat your shower doors with a film of white material, it will also shorten the life of your appliances and will form scale on sinks and tubs. Calcium and lime are the two main minerals you have to watch out for and once they get a hold of your shower doors, you are going to have to scrub to get rid of them.

A good water softener will help eliminate this problem, but if you can’t afford one or don’t think you need to have one, you will have to buy a cleaner for your shower doors that will take care of lime and other mineral deposits. This type of cleaner is often harsh and has to be left sitting on the minerals in order to dissolve them. Keep this in mind when choosing your shower doors because a weaker material may not stand up well to this sort of cleaner over a period of time. This not only applies to the face of the doors, but the quality of the trim and fixtures as well.
